Title: A Metaphor in MICASE
Authors: Dushyanthi Mendis & John Swales
Date: February, 2004
Summary: Look at the way “track” is used in each example and decide
whether the word is used literally or metaphorically. In part 2, decide whether the metaphor is making a positive (complimentary), negative (critical) or neutral (descriptive) comment about something or someone. Then practice using the metaphors by preparing a response to a prompt using a “track” metaphor as part of your response.
